Pharmacy Students Don White Coats in Ceremony

MAY 21

35 members of the College of Pharmacy Class of 2018/2019 entered the 4th annual White Coat and 1st Pinning Ceremony on March 15, 2019.

The students, along with their family members and friends were welcomed by Dean Ma. Ana Monica Mingoa, RPh, into the Pharmacy profession who informed them that the ceremony signifies the beginning of their journey to become Doctors of Pharmacy who shall serve with care, trust, and professional service.

Keynote speaker, Professor Nelson T. Tubon, PhD, RPh challenged students to think beyond their degree and focus on finding ways they, as future medication-based experts, can innovate and improve the delivery of healthcare by providing key principles of the profession revolving around the acronym PHARMACIST: Positivity, Health Promoter, Adaptable, Responsible, Mastery of profession, Attitude, Communicator, Integrity, Service, and Teachable.

“Donning the white coat is the first step to your journey [in a career] that is exciting, sometimes frustrating, but a fantastic journey you can take,” said Professor Tubon. He also gave a quote that in order to become successful, “‘You must know what you are doing, love what you are doing, and believe in what you are doing.’ Think of pharmacy as a career, not just a job. Careers evolve as we grow personally and professionally,” he said.

Dean Mingoa called each student to the podium for the cloaking of white coats headed by Registrar Joseph Solivar and Professor Tubon.

The students then said the Pledge of Professionalism of Aspiring Pharmacist headed by Pharmacy Society president Camille B. Espinola, RPT. This was followed by the Pinning of the Pharmacy Emblem and the reciting the Hypocratic Oath of a Pharmacist led by Pharmacy Society auditor Prinza-Yna Janela E. Funcion.

The ceremony culminated with an inspirational message from WCC Alumni and pharmacy graduate Marianne Dizon, RPh followed by a community singing of the White Coat song and prayer. Professor Johnny S. Bacud, Jr. RPh, MS Pharm gave the closing remarks. – WCC QC
